MySpeed for Mac suddenly stopped working with Firefox, Chrome or Safari
Friday, 22 February 2013 19:49

Update:  Download the Latest MySpeed for Mac Version 1.43 release (1153)

One possible cause of this problem is that the browser can get into a state where the child process that is running Flash becomes orphaned from the parent browser process.  The orphaned child process does not terminate when the parent browser process does and MySpeed stays connected to the orphaned child process.

The issue is that MySpeed does not detect that a new child process has been started by the browser the next time you open a page containing Flash content.

Another possible cause is that your Flash version has automatically updated in the background and this requires a restart of the browser and MySpeed.

The solution is to Quit all Browsers and MySpeed.  Follow these instructions to ensure that these processes are terminated and restarted correctly.

  1. Make sure you really quit the browser applications first from the Safari, Firefox or Chrome application menu in the menu bar next to the Apple icon. Selecting Quit Safari, Quit Firefox or Quit Chrome from that menu. Clicking on the red(x) in the corner or a window only closes that window, it does not actually quit the application.
  2. Stop the MySpeed Browser Plugin process
    1. Click on the MySpeed icon in the menu bar
    2. Select Preferences from the menu
    3. Uncheck the box in front of "Enable browser plugin"
  3. Quit MySpeed by clicking the MySpeed icon in the menu bar and selecting "Quit MySpeed" from the menu.
  4. Restart the computer by selecting "Restart" from the Apple menu.
  5. MySpeed should start automatically before you open any browsers

That should resolve the issue.

Note: If you are viewing video on YouTube, you may also be viewing the HTML5 version of the video.  See this Known Issue if you are viewing YouTube and the above instructions do not resolve the issue.
