Students Wowed by Variable Speed Playback

When Brigham Young University Accounting Professor Norm Nemrow set out to augment his curriculum with a series of online lectures and slides, BYU created a state-of-the-art multi-media presentation system. Students were delighted with the flexibility of viewing material on their own, but felt one feature was missing: the ability to control the playback speed.

Thanks to Enounce, students can now learn at their own pace – slowly for complex material and note taking, quickly for fast scanning of previously viewed and familiar material.

BYU installed a corporate license for 2xAV for Windows Media Player on its university lab computers to give students the ability to control the presentation rate of online lectures and other material.

The BYU Center for Instructional Design studied the results of using variable speed playback and published the results. BYU Paper (PDF) The students benefited greatly – showing greater interest and aptitude for the material.
